while we were still... yet... SINNERS...

I was chatting with a friend today about Jesus' humanity in relation to the crucifixion, and I thought of this verse:

[but God shows his love for us in that while WE... WERE... STILL... YET... SINNERS... Christ died for us.]
Romans 5:8 (emphasis added)

Oh my gosh. That is such a hard idea to wrap my mind around. Jesus, the only human being on earth that was perfect from birth to death bore all the sins of the world. Scoffers were jeering at him every step of the way. One of disciples betraying Him, and another denying Him three times. The amount of emotional hurt and suffering He had to bear was unthinkable. On top of that, all the excruciating physical pains that He went through makes it all just unthinkable. No wonder Christ is the Great High Priest that is able to sympathize with our weaknesses!

But man, who would ever do such a thing? A God, humbling Himself as a human, coming down on earth to dwell with His creation that were absolutely hostile to Him. That is just inconceivable! Yet, He still submitted His will to the Father. He came for the weak. He ate with sinners. He ate with tax collectors. He ate with the unclean. He touched the unclean!! He chose to die on the cross, so that sinners might be reconciled with God. What love! So incomprehensible! He died for me, a wretched sinner??

Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.
