[The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.]
How many of us have asked for prayer to have a fruitful summer, not to be lazy, but to be diligent in spending time in the Word? How many of us actually worked hard at that? Man, I sure haven't. Since the summer's started, it's been an ongoing struggle between my wanting to just lay there and not do anything with the conflicting desire to know and love Christ more. Day after day, it's just constant cycle that I go through, and my desire for the Word is going down and down and down each day. It's so easy to just give in and put things off. No wonder Jonathan Edwards resolved to, "never to lose one moment of time; but improve it the most profitable way I possibly can." He got quite a heavenly perspective on time here on Earth.
Soul, don't you know that sin crouches at he door? Don't you know that you're in the middle of a war against your soul? Stop trying to make excuses! It's no use asking people to pray for you over and over if you're not going to do anything about it! What are you doing? Repent! Get up! It's time to be vigilant over our hearts, especially now that summer is here (and pretty much half over) where there is an extra temptation to waste time! Don't you know that Christ died in order that we may desire Him, and eagerly wait for His return? Soul, know that the Word has promised fruitfulness and richness of the soul to the diligent. Delight in the Lord! Don't let sin abound!
get up get up! i must get up!
